How to cancel Prime Video, a channel or Amazon Prime

Choose the right route for a Prime Video add-on, standalone subscription, Amazon Prime membership or partner billing, then verify the end date.

The useful answer

Check what you pay for before cancelling. For a Prime Video add-on, open Account & Settings, choose Subscriptions, find the add-on and confirm Unsubscribe. For a standalone Prime Video plan, use Your Account and End Subscription. If Video is part of Amazon Prime, use Edit on Amazon to manage the Prime membership. Partner-billed plans use the partner’s route.

What to know

  • A channel add-on, a standalone Video plan and Amazon Prime are different subscriptions.
  • A cancellation confirmation and its end date are the useful evidence.
  • Cancelling an add-on does not automatically refund earlier charges.

Match the charge to the service you want to stop.

Open the official account for the Amazon marketplace or billing provider you used. Match the account email, subscription name, amount and renewal date to your receipt. A bank description alone may not distinguish a channel from a base membership or a one-off rental.

Choose the specific job: stop one channel, stop a Video-only plan, end Prime membership or investigate an unknown charge. Cancelling the whole membership to remove one unwanted add-on can affect other benefits you still use.

Cancel an add-on without confusing it with the base plan.

In the Subscriptions tab, locate the add-on, choose Unsubscribe and complete confirmation. Amazon notes that the control may also say withdraw. Save the end date shown; the help page says cancellation can be reversed until then and that earlier subscription charges are not automatically refunded.

For Apple-billed add-ons, Amazon specifies cancellation at least 24 hours before renewal. Follow the billing route and deadline shown for your account. If a channel is missing, check whether you subscribed directly with that streaming service instead.

Review what ending the base membership affects.

Amazon’s help distinguishes Video-only cancellation from managing Prime through Amazon. It also says additional subscriptions tied to the Prime or Video membership do not renew once Prime ends. Read the account’s actual end dates rather than assuming every service stops immediately.

For subscriptions created through a third party such as a mobile provider, Amazon directs you to that provider. Do not treat an absent Amazon cancellation button as evidence that the subscription has already ended.

Keep a short cancellation record.

If several people use the membership, agree which service is being removed before cancelling. A record of the specific subscription helps avoid a later restart by someone who thought only another channel had ended.

  1. Record which membership or add-on you cancelled and which account owns it.
  2. Finish the confirmation screens, then note the end date and renewal state.
  3. Retain the confirmation email or reference privately.
  4. Check the next expected payment against that record.
  5. For an unexpected charge, use the official billing provider’s help route; cancellation and a refund request are different tasks.

Count the saving only for the service that actually ended.

Consider an illustrative account with a £10 monthly base membership and a £6 monthly add-on. Removing only the add-on reduces future monthly charges from £16 to £10. The potential difference over twelve unchanged months is £72, not £192.

If you replace the add-on with a £4 monthly service, the difference becomes £2 per month, or £24 over twelve months. These are invented prices to show the method, not Amazon offers. Use your confirmed prices, end dates and replacement costs in the subscription calculator.

Once this is complete, check whether the rest of your recurring subscriptions still match what you use. A useful review ends with a specific decision and provider confirmation, rather than just a list of charges.
