Behind the guides

How we write and check our money guides

Our approach to sources, examples, comparisons and corrections. Useful information should be easy to inspect.

The useful answer

Lodo publishes practical explanations of everyday money tasks. We use primary sources for provider rules and official guidance, show the assumptions behind examples and calculators, and identify our own product perspective. Our guides are general information, not personalised financial advice.

What to know

  • Source links and checked dates appear on each guide.
  • Comparisons are published by Lodo, not an independent review panel.
  • We use AI assistance and do not invent human bylines or claim a review that did not happen.

A guide should do a useful job.

Every page should answer a specific question, explain a decision or help with a calculation. A subscription guide should help you find the right billing route. A budget guide should make it easier to build a workable plan. A comparison should make the differences easier to assess.

We prefer concrete steps, small worked examples and clear limits to broad promises. A longer page is not automatically more useful, and a shorter one is not complete if it leaves out a condition that changes the answer.

Use sources you can check.

For a provider’s cancellation process, we look to that provider’s help pages. For general consumer guidance, we use sources such as MoneyHelper, Ofcom, Ofgem and the FCA where relevant. The references at the end of a page let you check the original information.

Provider terms and available features can change. A checked date tells you when the page was reviewed against its sources; it is not a promise that a third-party process cannot change tomorrow. The provider’s current contract and help pages take precedence for its service.

Examples should explain the maths.

Amounts in worked examples are illustrative unless we explicitly identify a different basis. They are not reported Lodo customer outcomes. Interest examples state their rate and time assumptions. Bill comparisons distinguish a lower monthly price from the saving after fees.

Our public calculators run their calculations in the page. They do not connect to your accounts or submit a financial application. A calculator output is only as complete as the inputs and assumptions shown with it.

Our point of view is visible.

Lodo writes these pages, including comparisons with other approaches and products. That is a commercial perspective. We explain who another option may suit and avoid presenting our own product as the winner of an independent ranking.

Where a feature or price depends on a paid tier, market, provider or eligibility, check the relevant service’s current details before choosing. We do not use invented test scores, review stars or customer counts to settle a comparison.

AI assistance, without invented credentials.

We use AI-assisted research, drafting and checking as part of publishing this library. Pages are attributed to Lodo as the publisher. We do not attach a person’s name or professional qualification to imply that they wrote or approved a page when they did not.

The site’s source-controlled publishing process records changes so factual or technical issues can be corrected. Publication dates identify the first release; update dates change when the substance changes.

Tell us when something needs fixing.

If you spot a broken source, a calculation problem, a changed process or unclear wording, send the page link and a short explanation to [email protected]. Please leave account credentials and sensitive financial details out of the message.

For a decision that depends on your own circumstances, seek appropriate qualified advice. If essential bills or debts are becoming difficult to manage, free guidance from MoneyHelper is a more suitable next step than a generic comparison page.
