How to Leave Plusnet
If you are considering leaving Plusnet, it is important to understand your contract and any early termination fees you might face. This guide explains what to check before you leave, how to cancel or switch, and what happens to your account when you move on.
Check your contract first
Before making any decisions, check your Plusnet contract end date and whether you will face early termination charges. Log into your Plusnet account online to view your contract details. If you cannot access your account, call Plusnet customer service on 0330 1239 123 and ask for your contract end date and any applicable exit fees.
If you are still within your minimum term, Plusnet will charge an early termination fee. This is calculated based on your monthly charge, the number of months left on your contract, and VAT. For example, if you pay £23.99 per month and have three months and 20 days remaining, your early termination fee would be about £34.84. For more details, visit Plusnet’s Early Termination Charges page.
How to cancel or switch
There are two main ways to leave Plusnet: cancelling outright or switching to a new broadband provider.
Pure cancellation
If you want to cancel without moving to another provider, you must contact Plusnet directly. Call the Customer Options Team on 0330 1239 123, log into your Plusnet account and follow the cancellation instructions, or send a written request to Plusnet Plc, Endeavour, Sheffield Digital Campus, 1a Concourse Way, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2BJ. Sending written requests by recorded delivery is recommended. You will need to give 14 days’ notice for cancellation.
Switching to a new provider
If you are moving to another broadband provider, your new provider will usually handle the switch. This process is known as cease-and-reprovide. The new provider will inform Plusnet and manage the transfer, making the process straightforward for you. You will still need to pay any early termination charges if you are within your minimum contract period. The switch typically takes 3 to 10 working days.
What happens to your account
When you leave Plusnet, you may lose access to some services:
- Phone number: You can usually keep your existing phone number. Your new provider will handle the transfer if you request it.
- Email addresses: Plusnet discontinued email, domain, and webspace accounts on 15 April 2025. You will lose access to any Plusnet email accounts when your service ends.
- Bundled services: Any extras like line rental or call plans will end with your broadband contract.
- Smart meter compatibility: Leaving Plusnet should not affect your smart meter, as it operates independently of your broadband.
- Loyalty rewards: Any loyalty benefits or rewards will cease upon cancellation.
- Equipment return: Plusnet may request that you return their router or other equipment. Failure to do so could result in a charge.
