How to Leave Hyperoptic
Thinking about leaving Hyperoptic? Whether you are moving, switching to a new broadband provider, or just want to end your contract, it pays to know the steps and avoid unexpected fees. Here is what you need to know before you cancel.
Check your contract first
Before you do anything, check your Hyperoptic contract details. You can find your contract end date by logging into your 'My Account' portal, reviewing your original agreement, or contacting Hyperoptic's customer service on 0333 332 1111 or by emailing [email protected]. Ask specifically for your contract end date and any early termination charges that may apply.
If you are still within your minimum contract period, Hyperoptic charges early termination fees. For broadband-only, the fee is the lesser of £20 or your monthly package price, multiplied by the months left. For broadband and phone bundles, it is the lesser of £25 or your monthly charge, times the months remaining. Always confirm the exact amount with customer support, as fees can change depending on your plan and remaining term.
How to cancel or switch
If you want to cancel without moving to another provider, you must give Hyperoptic at least 30 days' notice. You can do this by calling 0333 332 1111, emailing [email protected], using the online support form in your 'My Account' portal, or via live chat on their website. Make sure you get a confirmation reference number for your records.
If you are switching to another broadband provider, the new provider usually handles the switch for you. This is known as the supplier-led process. Your new provider will notify Hyperoptic and arrange the transfer date. There is no need for a code like with mobile switching. However, you should still check if you are liable for any early termination fees or notice periods with Hyperoptic before starting the switch.
What happens to your account
When you leave Hyperoptic, you will lose access to all services included in your contract. Hyperoptic does not provide traditional landline numbers or email addresses, so there are no numbers to port or emails to keep. If you have a bundle (broadband and phone), cancelling will end all services in the bundle.
There are no loyalty rewards or smart meter implications with Hyperoptic. If you have been provided with equipment, such as the Hyperhub router or a hotspot device, you must return these to avoid extra charges. The fee for not returning a Hyperhub router is £70, and for a hotspot device, it is £170. You can request a pre-paid return label via your 'My Account' support page.
