How to Leave EE

Thinking about leaving EE? Whether you want to cancel outright or switch to a new mobile provider, it is important to understand the steps involved and what happens to your account. This guide explains the difference between requesting a PAC code and the manual switch process, so you can leave EE with confidence.

Check your contract first

Before you leave EE, check your contract end date and whether any early termination fees apply. Log in to your EE account online and go to 'Plan & add-ons' to see your contract details. You can also call EE customer service at 150 from your EE phone to ask about your contract status and any exit fees.

If you are still within your minimum contract term, EE may charge a Remaining Contract Charge. This is calculated based on the number of months left, with VAT deducted and a 4 percent early payment discount applied. For example, if you have £90 left (£30 per month for three months), the final charge would be £86.40 after deductions. Always confirm your specific fee with EE before making any decisions.

How to cancel or switch

You can leave EE in one of two ways: pure cancellation or switching to a new provider.

Pure cancellation

If you just want to leave EE and do not plan to join another provider, you can cancel by logging in to your EE account online, texting 'INFO' to 85075, calling 150 from your EE phone, or visiting an EE store. EE requires at least 30 days' notice, even if your minimum term has ended. You can give notice up to 45 days before your contract ends. After you request cancellation, you will receive a reference number and written confirmation from EE.

Switching to a new provider

If you want to move to another network and keep your number, request a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) by texting 'PAC' to 65075. Your PAC is valid for 30 days. Give this code to your new provider, who will arrange the switch and transfer your number. The switch usually completes in one working day. EE does not offer an auto-switch service, so you must request your PAC or STAC manually. If you do not use a PAC, your number will be lost when you leave EE.

What happens to your account

When you leave EE, your mobile number can be transferred to your new provider if you use a PAC. If you cancel without a PAC, your number will be disconnected. EE does not provide email addresses, so there is no email account to lose. Any bundled services, such as TNT Sports or Apple Music, will end when your account closes. You may also lose any loyalty benefits or rewards linked to your EE account. EE does not offer broadband, so smart meter compatibility is not relevant.

Once you have left EE, you are free to join any UK mobile provider. If you are considering your next move, see our guides:
